Mixing involves balancing and processing all individual tracks — levels, panning, EQ, compression, effects — to create a coherent, artistically complete stereo version.
Mastering is the final step that prepares this mix for distribution — streaming, CD, vinyl — by optimizing global levels, dynamics and compatibility across all listening systems.
In short: mixing sculpts each instrument in the track, mastering prepares the track for the world.
Read our full article →Analog mastering runs the audio signal through a chain of analog hardware — EQs, compressors, tube limiters — before final digital conversion.
At Sonaxis, the chain includes:
- Pultec Clone — passive program EQ
- Alan Smart C2 — SSL bus compressor
- Pendulum OCL-2 — optical tube compressor
- Prism Lyra 2 — high-definition converters
Stem mastering processes separate groups rather than a single stereo mix — e.g. vocals, instruments, bass/drums, effects.
More control, more flexibility. Sonaxis accepts up to 5 stems per track.
